Child Health & Immunisation

The baby clinics at Throckley are drop-in sessions where no appointments to see the Health Visitor or Nursery Nurse are necessary (although immunisations are only with the Practice Nurse on a Tuesday and should be booked in advance). Parents are asked to book their baby in with the receptionist on arrival for all of the sessions.

Babies or preschool children can attend the weekly clinics. This is where infants and young children can have their feeding, growth, behaviour and development monitored and reviewed.

The Health Visitor can also sometimes provide support for parents of preschool children who may be experiencing difficulties.

Time: Wednesday
9.30a.m. – 11.00a.m.

Led by our nursing team, this clinic offers advice and general health check-ups to patients diagnosed with diabetes.

NHS Health Checks

This free NHS Health Check is to available to everyone between the ages of 40 and 74 every 5 years to assess your risk of developing heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease. The good news is that these conditions can often be prevented – even if you have a history of them in your family.

What happens at the check?

  • The check will take about 20 minutes
  • We’ll record your height, weight, age, sex and ethnicity
  • We’ll take your blood pressure
  • We’ll do some simple blood tests to check your cholesterol, liver & kidney function and a test for diabetes.

What happens after the check?

We arrange for Dr Jones to ring you to discuss your results when the tests have been reported on, usually within the next 3 working days.
